Are the Grand Cayman Snorkeling Sites Safe?

My wife and I have planned a vacation in Grand Cayman. Since it is very well-known for its underwater attractions, we’d like to take our kids Grand Cayman snorkeling with us. Are the Grand Cayman snorkeling sites safe for children? Are there snorkeling programs for children in Grand Cayman? My daughter is a bit afraid of the water and I was hoping that taking her on this trip would help her overcome her fears. How calm are the waters in Grand Cayman? Can you name some beautiful Grand Cayman snorkeling sites that are near the shore?

You chose the perfect place for snorkeling. Grand Cayman is known for its world-class dive sites and operators. With 40 dive operators to choose from, you are sure to find an experienced diver who could coach your kids. Better yet, this area offers two programs that are perfect for kids: SASY and Bubblemaker. SASY, Supplied Air Snorkeling for Youth, is a scuba unit made for kids. Made for snorkeling, six-year-old kids are given some lessons on how to use this unit in a swimming pool before they are taken to the beach or dive boat for a supervised snorkeling experience. Children who are eight to eleven years old can be taught how to use the bubblemaker. This will allow them to go underwater, reaching a depth of 6 feet.

Grand Cayman snorkeling can give any beginner the best underwater experience. The great thing about the waters of Grand Cayman is that it is calm and almost current-free. Your children can enjoy the beautiful views below without having to worry about being carried away by the current. Because the waters are very clear, the visibility can go as far as 100 feet. Your children can have a clear view of the diverse coral formations and fishes even if they are close to the surface.

After your children have undergone their Bubblemaker or SASY lessons, you could take them to the Turtle Farm in West Bay. Although most visitors overlook this Grand Cayman snorkeling site because it is not well-promoted, this spot is worth a look. Your children would enjoy viewing the marine life that inhabit this area. Close to the shore, they could view the colorful parrot fish, soft sponges, octopus and seafans that frequent the area near the shore. They would also enjoy swimming amidst sea turtles. This site also has a cove that you can explore with your kids.

If your children are fascinated by wrecks, you can take them snorkeling in Georgetown where the Wreck of Gamma can be found. This is an old freighter that crashed against the shoreline and is now crumbling because of corrosion. You could see it sticking out from the beach. Underwater, this wreck has become an artificial home for many marine species. Not only would your kids be able to explore the wreck underneath, they would also be able to appreciate the coral formations that grow in front of this wreck.

With all the wonderful sights she can view underwater, your daughter would be able to associate the sea with a lot of fantastic experiences in the future. This would definitely be the best cure for her fear of water.
