Catching & Cooking Crabs An Incident Of A Lifespan
For an adventure lover, the water environment is always fascinating. If someone further appreciates the idea of catching fresh fish, then certainly estuaries are the appropriate place to do so. It provides a transition between the river and ocean atmosphere which have both the marine and fresh water impacts. Besides, estuaries form the most productive habitat that has a great diversity of wildlife. If you are deciding your upcoming fishing trip to the estuaries, then besides the fishing rods and proper bait make sure you have canoe outriggers or the kayak outriggers which makes fishing easier for you. Besides the usual fishing, a year-round sport on the estuaries is getting live crabs.
Estuaries are the best place for catching crabs as in the ocean, crab season is closed for a few months. In seas, catching live crabs is allowed only during mild to sunny weather. But no matter where you catch them, it must be legal. So before going for the hunt, get yourself a license if you are 14 years of age or above. The validity of the license varies in duration in multiple places. Whether you happen to be a resident of the region or an outsider, by getting licensed, you can be on the right side of law.
Furthermore, it’s also wrong to catch too many females. So once you determine the male from the female, leave all the females. You can easily tell them apart if you are allowed to see them both at the same time. Another thing you have to consider before catching a crab is its size. It must approximately be five and three forth inches through the back of the shell, keeping all these legal pointers in mind, consider the crab prepared for dinner.
Let the adventure start! Though cooking crab is an artform, catching it is really enthralling. You will need crab rings or crab pots for this purpose, hook little pieces of fish, chicken or turkey to the bait and sink it into the water. Wait for a while and pull it back up to see what you have got. It won’t take long for a crab to get hooked if you maintain your rod stationary. If you cannot catch anything then you need to move to a different spot and repeat the step. The moment you get hold of a couple, don’t wait much long to cook them. In order to enjoy the taste, cook them within an hour after catching.
There is nothing better than enjoying the unique and juicy taste of a crab. This is a wonderful treat laden with flavor and zest. For seafood geeks, crabs are a perfect delight. After getting hold of some, you can also keep them in salt water storages before you take them to the kitchen. No matter what recipe it is, cooking crabs does not take much long. Overcooking ruins the color and taste and will surely spoil the show for you. A nicely cooked crab is the one that maintains it’s natural color and taste till when it is presented on the table.
