Around 1893, Hotel Colorado, without doubt the most renowned of the Glenwood Springs Hotels was constructed during {a thrilling time|an exciting time|an exciting period in the history of the American West. The Hotel Colorado’s founder, Walter Devereux, spared no expense in the development of the "Grande Dame." The south court, today’s courtyard, had a large pool in the center with a powerful fountain which shot a jet of water 185 feet high into the air, making an iridescent rainbow spray against the sunlight.
