Notre Dame At Paris
Say the words Cathdrale de Notre-Dame and what springs to mind? For you it could be the scene where Lon attempts to seduce Emma in Madame Bovary, the picture of one of Monets many clear paintings, or the crypt containing the heart of Richard the Lionheart, but I personally think of Quasimodo and Esmeralda in Disneys The Hunchback of Notre lady. One of Frances most beautiful Gothic Masterpieces, the Notre dame is as vivid in real life as it would seem in the films.
Hence get out of your location paris and make a day of seeing this beautiful cathedral, open from 2-6pm Mon ; 8am-6pm Tue-Sun, entry to the cathedral is free. The Notre lady was reconstructed fter the second World War due to the destruction due to shelling. The building that now stands there is the 3rd church to have stood on the exact same site, as over time different events have caused the churchs destruction. The first church was created in the 3rd century, the second was ransacked by the Vikings, and almost all of what you see nowadays was created in the 12 th and 13th centuries so you can be guaranteed, its very old! The church also received a battering in the radical section of the French Revolution in the 1790s, when much of its spiritual imagery was damaged or wrecked.
Notre dame de Paris is widely considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic design. The name Notre lady means "Our lady" in French and this cathedral was one of the first Gothic cathedrals, and its construction spanned the Gothic period. Its sculptures and stained glass show the heavy influence of naturalism, unlike that of earlier Romanesque design.
ensure this is on your list of destinations to see during your weekend or week long break to Paris, fortunately the cathedral is centrally located in Paris, and nearby you'll find a lot of shops, cafes and sweet French cafeterias, amongst lots of location appartement paris.
