Renewing Expired Kids Passport - Accomplish It Quickly

Renewing expired kids passports can be a hassle but is necessary if your kids travel a lot. It is more difficult to renew a passport for a child than doing it for an adult. The US government requires the parents to show proof of custody and to present the child to an agent. To prepare for this procedure, parents must fill out a DS 11 form.

Forms

You can get the DS-11 from the proper agencies or on a website. You can download it from a site and print it before filling it out or fill out the form online and then print it afterwards. The parent of the child can complete the form with the necessary details.

Child's Information

Some information parents need to place in the form is the child's complete name as stated in the birth certificate and address. You also need to state the birth date, social security no., and other important information. After filling up the form, place it in an unsealed envelop. You should also place the old passport of your child in the envelope as well.

Certificates

You need to prove that you are related to the child renewing the passport. Include copies of the birth certificate indicating the name of both parents and provide your identification as well. If you have a problem providing the documents, you have to go to court and get proof that you are the legal guardian or parent of the child. If the child is adopted, then adoption papers must also be provided with the renewal application.

English

If your papers are in a foreign language, you will need to have them translated into English. Some identification cards you can supply are state IDs for both parents, U. S. Drivers licenses or U. S. Passport of both parents. If you are an immigrant, you will need to give a copy of your naturalization papers. Military identification cards and employee IDs are also suitable.

Application

Your renewal application should also include 2 photos of your child. Let the photographer know it is for a passport so you can provide pictures in the appropriate size. You also have to provide current pictures less than 6 months old. Put all of these documents including the photographs in the envelope and visit the passport renewal agency. Bring original copies too in case the agent wishes to see them.

Cost

Find out the fees you have to pay for the passport renewal before visiting the agency. You may be able to get a figure online or by calling the passport office. Bring the money with you when you visit the agency with your child. You might be able to find a passport processing agency near your residence. Try to search for a nearby office online.

Once you locate a nearby office, both parents can take the child with the accompanying documents for an interview. If one parent cannot go with the child, the missing parent must fill out and submit a DS 3033 form that states your consent for your child's passport renewal. So, renewing expired kids U.S. passports will take several weeks to process. Expect the new U S passport in the mailbox.
