The Seven Canary Islands
Most of us crave winter sun as soon as the cold takes hold and for many the canary islands are a perfect holiday location. Only a convenient four hour flight from the United kingdom, the Canaries offer all year long sunshine, and are a well known holiday location for both British, and other Europeans alike.
There are 7 islands that make up the canary islands and they are: Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, La Palma, Tenerife, Lanzarote, El Hierro and La Gomera. Without doubt the most popular of the islands are Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife, however La Gomera is rapidly catching up.
Positioned off the coast of Africa, the canary islands boast many of the most wonderful beaches in Europe and people come from far and wide to relish the beautiful scenery and lively nightlife. Each island is unique so if you have been to one island then do not assume the others will be similar to it.
If you are looking for a fun crammed holiday with plenty of night life and partying then Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria are your safest bet. For a more care-free, relaxed holiday then try the island of Fuerteventura that has some spectacular beaches to be found and an abundance of lovely restaurants and bars. If aquatic sports are your thing then again Fuerteventura is your best option as it is also home of the annual wind surfing championships held in Jandia.
Pretty much untouched by tourism, both El Hierro and La Palma are also well worth a visit, and the island of La Gomera seems to be the next up and coming island for tourism.
Overall if you are looking for a winter get away then canary islands vacation are by far the most handy and with February being there only rainy month, you are more or less guaranteed sunshine throughout the cold winter months - Try the Canary Islands this winter for some winter sunshine!
