Top Secret Vacaton Surfing Destination Is Sayulita
Sayulita Surfing In Sayulita Mexico
After long last, we made it to Sayulita, Mexico. Sayulita surfing is known everywhere. Now, the renown is not for grand crashing waves and long rides, but instead the consistently satisfying swells that break left and right and can accommodate experts and novice surfers – such as us – for a sweet day on the water.
Frankly, the grand crashing waves scare the heck out of me. I have surfed since the mid-eighties but living in Montreal I cannot surf without lots of travel, so my surfing talent is rather shallow. We’ve visited some great beaches in California and along the peninsula, but some Americans had enlightened us to surfing on the Bay of Banderas and Sea of Cortez along Mexico’s western coast. Recently we had been noticing fellow Canadians and even a couple European acquaintances talk {particularly|expressly|specifically about the river mouth surf in Sayulita.
The surf break is really special. To me it is forceful enough to make the ride exhilarating, but not so formidable as to overpower you – in general. Occasionally the swells rise above eight feet and the waves get too strong for us. The locals can absolutely get out there and rip it up when the waves are powerful and I was informed there have been several surf champions who were born and raised in Sayulita.
One thing about surfing here – it is inviting to beginning surfers, suggesting there are usually lots of, well, beginning surfers. Try to be tolerant as many visitors are just discovering the sport and its intricacies. Fortunately, the locals are amiable and provide inexpensive board rentals and introductory lessons. Surfing in Sayulita is best between December and April. But the ocean can get pretty crowded during those times since the colder seasons are the chief Mexico trip opportunities.
Since I got onto Mexico vacations – that is another sweet thing about Sayulita. After a brisk morning of surfing there is so much to see and do within a short distance. Puerto Vallarta is maybe a half hour away and that is where you want to go for a wild time. We wooped it up till nearly dawn at The Zoo in PV. They have incredible golf courses and tours, too. All over the state of Nayarit there are numerous tour guides that will take you into the jungles or a jaunt down the river or in the beautiful open waters. We loved to rent a car and go along the coast and experience the Pacific panoramas and mango groves.
Sayulita is an extremely fascinating place. Sayulita surfing is just great fun, and the things to do and places to stay are so inexpensive we considering a move further south so we can plan more frequent trips.
