Visiting Barcelona - European Flair And Sunlit Beaches

Barcelona is a unique city that combines two qualities that many vacationers look for: beautiful beaches and the European city feel. As the second largest city in Spain, Barcelona is a cosmopolitan city that focuses on modernity while still keeping undertones from it's 2000 year long history. The city is located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, meaning the beautiful blue water is never very far away. If Barcelona is a place that you are thinking about visiting, be sure to get your U S passport first.

You will be surprised how much simpler and more convenient the passport application process is when you do your passport business online. Not only is it easier and more convenient, but you get your passport much quicker as well. Online expediting sites were created in order to help people get their passports fast, and with their variety of services - from getting your first passport to a passport replacement - all of your bases are covered.

Barcelona is a big city comprised of several smaller districts. Each of these districts has its own very unique sort of atmosphere, and some like to plan their vacations around this fact. The Old Town district is called Ciutat Vella, and this is home to the Gothic Quarter, or Barri Gotic. Barri Gotic is a great place to walk, as the narrow streets and beautiful Gothic buildings are so exemplary of Barcelona life. Las Ramblas, also located in Ciutat Vella, is the most famous street in Barcelona. The atmosphere is electrifying, with the talented street performers, restaurants, and shopping. Eixample is a separate district, one that features art nouveau buildings. Gracia is a district that is very cosmopolitan, and Barceloneta is home to the beaches and seaside cafes.

To the north of Barcelona is Tibidabo, a very tall mountain. This mountain offers the best view of Barcelona. On the mountaintop, there is an old church that is fun to explore. There is a legend that says Satan tried to tempt Jesus with the whole world. The mountain is accessible by either tram or on foot. Both methods give you a great view of the mountain. Montjuic is another mountain from which to view the city. You can take a cable car ride to the top of Montjuic, which is fun in itself. Montserrat is yet another mountain that features more history. On Montserrat is an ancient monastery. There are also a variety of hiking trails if you feel like exploring even more.

There are two famous attractions in Barcelona that happen to be located within a few minutes' walk of each other. La Sagrada Familia is a Roman Catholic Basilica, and is easily the most famous site in the whole city. However, the Church remains unfinished, as the architect commissioned to build it died during construction. It is set to be finished on the 100 year anniversary of the architect's death. Hospital de Sant Pau is a hospital that is still completely functional, but it is famous for its modernist look, which Barcelona is symbolic of.

There is definitely no shortage of fun things to do in Barcelona, and deciding which ones to do really depends on your personal interest. There are tons of great art museums to visit, such as the Dali museum, and Barcelona cuisine is world-renowned for being some of the most delicious in the world. The nightlife has a great reputation and the beaches are always beautiful. Remember to get your passport however. Start by going online, where you can get your first passport or an old American passport replacement.
