Which are the best Grand Cayman Scuba Diving Sites?

My friends and I are planning to take a trip to Grand Cayman this summer. Since we're going to go Grand Cayman scuba diving at a limited budget, we might not be able to stay there long enough to see all the great spots that it is known for. We might narrow it to three to five sites. Which are the best Grand Cayman diving sites that we should visit? What can we see in these diving sites? And, where can we find cheap dive packages in Grand Cayman?

It sounds like you'll have a hard time picking the five Grand Cayman scuba diving sites for your next vacation. It has around 250 diving sites which contain exhibit a diverse array of fishes and corals. Some dive spots even have some wrecks that look quite eerie beneath the sea. You would be able to view all these in a clear sea that has a visibility of 100 feet and above. The best part about Grand Cayman scuba diving is that you would be able to enjoy these sights and experiences at a temperature of 79 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit.

One of the best attractions in Grand Cayman is the Stingray City which has been shown in cruise ship commercials and featured in dive magazines. In this world-famous shallow dive, you would be able to kneel on the sand and feed or pet the stingrays. Watching these graceful creatures swirl around you can also be a fantastic experience. You would be able to take a lot of great underwater pictures in this site.

You can also visit one of the most famous wrecks in Grand Cayman. This is the Oro Verde, an 84-foot steel freighter which was scuttled and sunk by the Caymanian government in May 31, 1980. Since then, this ship has been inhabited by a lot of extraordinary characters like a 300-lb jew fish named George, a six-foot green moray named Kermit and four-foot barracuda named Puff. In this area, you would also be able to feed a school of yellow tail snappers and angel fish.

Maybe you can also add the Big Tunnel in the dive spots that you should visit. You would be awed by the formation of corals in this drop off. The Trinity Caves which are in the same area is also a great spot to visit. Here, you would see a system of four coral canyons that converge on the surface of a vertical wall.

In the North Wall, you can view Eagle Ray Pass, a deep chasm leading to the wall. This pass is formed by towering coral heads, coral archways and narrow crevices. Here, you will see a lot of sponges, gorgonian fans and black corals. In this fantastic area, you will meet a lot of new creatures like the Spotted Eagle Rays that swim along the surface of the wall.

Perhaps you can try going for one of the packages offered by Red Sail. At $630, they can offer a package that includes accommodation for three nights and a daily one-tank dive. Perhaps you could also go for a package that would allow you to go diving twice a day for three days. At $312, this doesn't include accommodations though. You can probably look for a cheaper accommodation in the island.
